A seven-year-old Nigerian artist, Kendis, has been awarded a full scholarship through university and a cash prize of ₦2.5 million after a portrait he painted of Ogun State APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, captured widespread attention online.
Kendis received the awards during Senator Adeola's Scholarship and Bursary Award Ceremony, where he presented the original artwork to the lawmaker. The senator and his wife, Temitope Adeola, welcomed the young artist before announcing the scholarship and cash gift, a gesture that drew applause from attendees.
The portrait first went viral on TikTok after it was shared by Kendis' father, who guided him through the painting process. In the video, the young artist shared the touching story behind his work, explaining that he wanted to "paint tomorrow today" instead of waiting endlessly for a better future.
