Pakistan Monsoon Flood Death Toll Surpasses 100 as More Rain Looms

At least 107 people have died and 344 others have been injured after weeks of heavy monsoon rains and flooding across Pakistan, according to the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The fatalities, recorded since the start of the monsoon season in late June, were largely caused by collapsing houses and roofs. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of deaths with 55, followed by Punjab with 36.

In Punjab, severe flooding has submerged large areas, particularly around Lahore and Gujranwala, prompting authorities to establish at least 17 relief camps for displaced residents. Officials described the flooding as "very alarming," with hundreds of square kilometres remaining underwater.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said emergency teams have been deployed to assist affected communities and speed up floodwater drainage.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that another spell of heavy rainfall is expected to begin on Wednesday, raising concerns about fresh flooding in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities have urged residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow evacuation instructions as the monsoon season, which typically lasts until September, continues.
