United States President Donald Trump has reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia must normalize diplomatic relations with Israel before a proposed US-Saudi civilian nuclear agreement can move forward.
Speaking at the White House on Friday, Trump said joining the Abraham Accords remains a key condition for the kingdom to benefit from the nuclear partnership.
"I've always said that to move ahead with the deal, Saudi Arabia has to become part of the Abraham Accords. The time has come for that," Trump told reporters.
The remarks came just days after Washington and Riyadh signed a framework for civilian nuclear cooperation. Although the agreement was initially presented as a major step in strengthening US-Saudi relations, Trump later clarified that it would only proceed if Saudi Arabia formally recognizes Israel.
Saudi Arabia has not officially responded to Trump's latest comments. However, the kingdom has consistently maintained that it will not establish diplomatic ties with Israel until there is meaningful progress toward the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
The proposed agreement, expected to last 30 years, would expand cooperation in civilian nuclear technology and energy development. US officials have emphasized that the project would remain under strict American oversight to prevent nuclear proliferation.
The deal will also require approval by the US Congress before it can take full effect.
