At least three people have been killed and three others injured after Russia launched fresh drone and missile attacks on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, according to local Ukrainian officials.
The strikes, which targeted civilian, industrial and port facilities, marked the fifth consecutive day of heavy attacks on the Odesa region. Authorities said the assault caused significant damage to infrastructure that is vital to Ukraine's economy, including its Black Sea ports.
Russia's Ministry of Defence confirmed it carried out attacks on the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk, claiming it targeted facilities allegedly used to store fuel and assemble drones.
Meanwhile, Ukraine said it had intensified its operations in the Black Sea, with military officials claiming drone strikes hit 20 Russian vessels, including 17 oil tankers, two gas tankers and a tugboat. Kyiv said the campaign is aimed at disrupting Russian military logistics and limiting supplies to occupied Crimea.
The latest escalation comes as both countries continue to battle for control of key shipping routes in the Black Sea, which are crucial for grain exports and regional trade.
Separately, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv, where she announced plans to strengthen defence cooperation between the European Union and Ukraine, including new initiatives to expand joint defence production.
