Powerful 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern Japan, Tsunami Warning Issued

A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's southern Kyushu region on Tuesday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The quake's epicenter was in Kumamoto Prefecture, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning for waves of up to one metre along parts of the coast.

Emergency earthquake alerts were also sent to residents in Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita, and Miyazaki prefectures, urging people to take immediate safety precautions.

Authorities are assessing the situation, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage at the time of reporting. Officials have advised residents in affected areas to remain alert for possible aftershocks and follow evacuation instructions where necessary.
