United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reaffirmed Britain's unwavering support for Ukraine during his first meeting with a foreign leader since taking office, welcoming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in England on Monday.
Zelenskyy stopped in the UK ahead of his visit to Washington, D.C., where he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump to discuss efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
Burnham described Zelenskyy's visit as a deliberate signal of Britain's continued commitment to Ukraine, pledging to honor all previous UK commitments and announcing plans to visit Ukraine in the near future.
The two leaders also visited a naval base in Portsmouth, where they met British military personnel training Ukrainian forces in mine countermeasures and other defense operations.
As part of its continued military assistance, the UK announced it would provide Ukraine with the intellectual property behind its new "Stone Cloak" electronic warfare system, designed to jam Russian air defenses and improve drone operations.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine urgently needs more air defense systems and missiles to counter increasing Russian ballistic missile attacks, while also expressing interest in expanding defense cooperation with Britain through a new drone production agreement.
According to Downing Street, the UK has provided approximately £25 billion ($33 billion) in support to Ukraine since 2022, including £16 billion ($21 billion) in direct military aid.
Meanwhile, Russia said it remains open to considering new peace proposals, although the Kremlin stated it had not yet received any specific details ahead of Zelenskyy's visit to the United States.
