Police Rescue 10 Passengers After Bandit Attack on Kano Highway.

The Kano State Police Command has rescued 10 passengers after suspected bandits attacked a commercial bus along the Jos–Kano highway in Doguwa Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2026, when five armed bandits blocked the road near the Falgore Forest axis and attacked a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Jos to Kano.

The assailants reportedly abducted 13 of the 20 passengers on board before police officers from the Doguwa Division responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun battle.

Police said nine victims were rescued during the operation, while another passenger later escaped from captivity, bringing the total number of rescued victims to 10. Three passengers—one man and two women—remain in captivity.

The rescued passengers were taken to Doguwa General Hospital for medical evaluation and are reported to be in stable condition.

The command said tactical teams have intensified search and rescue operations to secure the release of the remaining captives and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended residents for providing timely information and assured the public that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state. Police added that investigations into the attack are ongoing.
