A 30-year-old man, Abubakar Auwal, has died after he was allegedly beaten by a group of people over claims that he was involved in an affair with a married woman in Kano State.
The incident occurred on July 24 in the Sheka area of Kano. According to the Kano State Police Command, officers responded to a distress call and found the victim unconscious after he had reportedly been severely assaulted.
Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said three suspects were arrested at the scene. They include Abubakar Ali (40), Sulaiman Lawan (27), and Hafsat Umar (22), the married woman at the center of the allegations.
The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead by doctors. His body has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
The Kano State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the killing and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized that only law enforcement agencies have the constitutional authority to investigate crimes and prosecute suspects through due process. The commissioner also pledged a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.
