JD Vance: US Iran Policy Driven by American Interests, Not Foreign Influence

US Vice President JD Vance has rejected claims that Israel or any other foreign country dictates Washington's policy toward Iran, insisting that the United States makes decisions based on its own national interests.

Speaking during an interview on Joe Rogan's podcast, Vance said he faced a coordinated campaign aimed at undermining ongoing negotiations with Iran. He claimed some groups opposed to diplomatic efforts launched attacks against him because he was pursuing President Donald Trump's objective of reaching a negotiated settlement.

Vance alleged that certain individuals linked to the Israeli government supported efforts to influence American public opinion against the proposed agreement. However, he stressed that while foreign governments often try to shape US policy, American leaders must always prioritize the interests of the United States.

He said the Trump administration's goals remain preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon while ensuring stability in global energy markets through the free flow of oil and gas.

Responding to accusations that he is anti-Israel or antisemitic, Vance strongly denied the claims, saying he has "great respect for the Jewish religion" and views Israel as an important US ally. He added that allies can disagree on policy while maintaining strong bilateral relations.

Vance also dismissed allegations that Israel influenced President Donald Trump's decision to launch military strikes against Iran, stating that he was directly involved in the discussions and that the decision was made independently by the US president.

Addressing reports that the United States would provide Iran with $300 billion, Vance described the claims as misleading. He explained that the proposal involved easing sanctions to allow Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to resume trade and investment with Iran rather than direct US payments.

He concluded by reaffirming that his responsibility is to represent the American people first and that US foreign policy will continue to be guided by American national interests.
