A family of six, including four children, was killed in an Israeli air strike on Gaza City, according to Palestinian health officials, amid continuing violence despite a US-backed ceasefire that has been in place since October.
The attack struck the al-Masri family's home in the Sabra neighbourhood while they were asleep. The victims were identified as Firas al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel, and their four children.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted a Hamas member and added that it is reviewing the outcome of the operation.
Relatives described the incident as devastating, saying rescue teams struggled to extinguish the fire and recover the victims from the damaged house. Family members said there had been no prior warning before the strike.
According to Palestinian officials, more than 1,150 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire was announced. Israel has continued carrying out what it says are targeted operations against militants.
The United Nations condemned the ongoing attacks, warning that civilians in Gaza continue to face serious risks despite the ceasefire. UN human rights officials said the continued deaths of civilians raise concerns about possible violations of international humanitarian law and called for greater protection of non-combatants.
International mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye and the United States, are continuing diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting agreement that would end the conflict, but negotiations have yet to produce a breakthrough.
