Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement says it has shot down a Saudi reconnaissance drone over northwestern Yemen, marking the latest escalation in tensions between the group and Saudi Arabia.
According to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, the drone was a Turkish-made armed reconnaissance aircraft belonging to Saudi Arabia. He claimed it was brought down while carrying out what he described as "hostile operations."
The announcement came one day after the Houthis said they had launched attacks on Saudi oil facilities, though Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed either claim.
The incident highlights the continuing security challenges in the region despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities. Independent verification of the Houthi claims was not immediately available, and Saudi Arabia has yet to issue an official response.
