Five Bosnian Climbers Feared Dead After Storm on Russia's Mount Elbrus

Five Bosnian climbers are feared dead after being caught in a powerful storm while climbing Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest peak, in southern Russia.

According to Russian emergency officials, two members of the seven-person expedition were rescued and airlifted for medical treatment. Rescue teams also located the bodies of two climbers at an altitude of about 5,350 meters (17,550 feet), while the search continues for three others.

Mount Elbrus, which stands at 5,642 meters (18,510 feet) near the Georgia-Russia border, is known for its unpredictable weather and dangerous climbing conditions.

Bosnian media identified the group as residents of Zenica, including a married couple and a doctor from a local hospital.

Russian authorities said strong winds and severe weather have made search and recovery operations extremely difficult. Rescue efforts remain ongoing as officials work to recover the remaining climbers.
