Suspected gunmen have abducted two farmers in Ifira, a farming community in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, demanding a ₦10 million ransom for their release.
According to local sources, the victims were ambushed while traveling to their farmland and taken into a nearby forest by the attackers.
A relative of one of the victims said the incident was immediately reported to the Nigeria Police Force and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun. The family also confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted them and demanded ₦10 million before the victims would be released.
"We have reported the case to the police and Amotekun. We are appealing to the government and security agencies to rescue our loved ones safely," the family member said.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed that a missing persons report had been received at the Isua Akoko Divisional Police Headquarters.
He said a joint security team—including police officers, soldiers, Amotekun operatives, local hunters, Agbekoya members, and community volunteers—has launched a search-and-rescue operation in the Oke-Ifira/Idogun forest area.
Abayomi stated that security personnel are using all available intelligence and operational resources to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible.
However, the police said they had not officially confirmed any ransom demand linked to the kidnapping.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could assist the rescue operation, assuring residents that all information would be treated confidentially. He also reaffirmed the command's commitment to rescuing the victims safely and bringing the kidnappers to justice.
