Former Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area in Kano State, Abdullahi Gali Shitu, has returned to his tailoring business following the loss of his position, saying skilled trades provide greater stability than political office.
Popularly known as Comrade Abdullahi Gali Basaf, Shitu now spends his days managing his tailoring workshop in Sheka Ward, where he supervises apprentices and produces garments. He said his decision was intentional, aimed at encouraging young people to embrace vocational skills rather than depend solely on politics.
According to him, tailoring financed much of his political journey, including election campaigns and other activities. He described the profession as a reliable source of income that continues to support him even after leaving office.
Shitu, who holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in Political Science, said he chose to return to tailoring because it has always been his passion. He revealed plans to modernize his business by establishing a garment manufacturing company capable of employing more than 50 people.
The former council chairman advised politicians and youths alike to develop sustainable careers outside politics, stressing that public office is temporary while a trade can provide lifelong financial security.
Shitu served as chairman of Kumbotso LGA until March 2026, when a Kano State High Court nullified his Certificate of Return and declared Ali Musa, popularly known as Hardworker, the rightful winner of the election.
Despite the court ruling ending his tenure, Shitu said he remains active in politics but now considers tailoring his primary occupation, insisting that honest work offers lasting dignity and economic independence.
