FG Commends Kano for Prioritising Education with 32% Budget, 16,000 Teacher Recruitment

The Federal Government has praised the Kano State Government for dedicating 32 percent of its budget to education and recruiting 16,000 teachers within the last three years, describing the achievement as one of the strongest investments in human capital development by any Nigerian state.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the commendation in Kano while presenting appointment letters to 4,900 newly employed teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators.

He stressed that qualified and committed teachers are essential to building a competitive education system, urging the new recruits to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and passion in nurturing the next generation.

According to Alausa, Kano's education reforms reflect Governor Abba Yusuf's commitment to improving learning outcomes through increased investment in teachers, modern school infrastructure, and technology-driven education.

The minister noted that while some states have gone years without recruiting teachers, Kano has employed 16,000 educators in just three years, calling the move a significant step toward strengthening the state's education sector.

During his visit, Alausa also inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, describing smart schools as critical to equipping students with digital skills needed for the modern world. He later commissioned the newly completed Government Girls Secondary School in Dangwaro to expand access to quality education for girls.

Governor Abba Yusuf described the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers and 3,688 BESDA facilitators as a major milestone in his administration's education reform agenda. He said the initiative aims to ensure that every classroom is staffed with qualified teachers and that more children have access to quality education.

Yusuf thanked President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, and development partners for supporting Kano's ongoing reforms.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with state governments to improve teacher quality, expand digital learning, strengthen literacy and numeracy programmes, and ensure equitable access to quality education across Nigeria.
