Father Arrested for Allegedly Burning Daughter Over Bedwetting in Ondo

A man identified as Amos Paul has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly burning the private part of his 10-year-old daughter with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.

The incident occurred in Unaun, Upenme, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State and was reported to the police on Thursday.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the girl suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, where she is receiving medical treatment.

Police detectives from the 'A' Division in Owo responded quickly to the report, visited the scene, and arrested the suspect.

The case has since been transferred to the Command's Gender Unit for further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and unacceptable. He reiterated the command's commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse and assured that anyone found guilty would face the full weight of the law.

The police also appealed to members of the public to report cases of child abuse, domestic violence, and related offences promptly to the nearest police station.

Investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in police custody pending further action.
