Former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has dismissed speculation that he plans to contest Nigeria's presidency, saying he has no interest in seeking the country's highest office.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Fashola gave a firm "No" when asked whether he intended to run for president. When pressed further, he responded humorously, saying, "President of what? I'm president at home."
Reflecting on more than two decades in public service, Fashola described his career as a remarkable privilege and expressed hope that his journey would inspire young Nigerians to believe in the opportunities the country offers.
He said Nigeria remains a nation where people can rise from humble beginnings to positions of leadership, encouraging the younger generation to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
On how he would like to be remembered, the former governor said he would leave that judgment to history rather than define his own legacy.
Fashola also confirmed that he remains a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), noting that there is a fine line between offering guidance and interfering in government affairs.
In addition, he called for greater public confidence in the judiciary, stressed the importance of a strong opposition in strengthening democracy, supported the creation of state police while warning it would not immediately solve insecurity, and blamed Lagos' recurring flooding partly on poor waste disposal practices alongside its coastal location.
