Boko Haram has released a tribute video for one of its cameramen and raid commanders, Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was reportedly killed during a failed attack on a Nigerian military base.
The three-minute video, narrated in Arabic, shows the deceased filming the group's activities and taking part in several operations. According to the military, the footage was intended to honour the fighter after his death.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said Abu Salim al-Barnawi was killed by Nigerian troops during an attempted raid on a military camp. He added that the terrorist had previously led attacks in Cameroon before joining Boko Haram's media unit.
Capt. Goni explained that the operation followed a failed attempt by terrorists to infiltrate Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State under the cover of darkness, allegedly to loot cholera medical supplies.
During the operation, troops recovered a Sony camcorder, ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat equipment.
Earlier this month, Operation Hadin Kai also announced the killing of an ISWAP cameraman and the recovery of video materials that reportedly revealed the presence of foreign facilitators linked to the terrorist group in Borno State.
The military said the latest operation reflects ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt the activities and propaganda operations of terrorist groups operating in Nigeria's North-East.
