At least 21 people have been killed after Russia and Ukraine launched a new wave of attacks against each other, according to officials from both countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a Russian missile strike on a defence industry event in the Kyiv region killed 10 people and injured more than 100 others. Additional Russian attacks in Sloviansk claimed five more lives, bringing the Ukrainian death toll to at least 15.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the security arrangements surrounding the defence event that was targeted.
Meanwhile, in Russia's Kirov region, officials said a Ukrainian missile attack on a factory killed six people and injured 26 others. Ukrainian drones also struck several warehouses belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries, causing significant damage but no reported casualties.
Russia's Defence Ministry said it intercepted 571 Ukrainian drones overnight in one of the largest drone attacks since the war began.
Despite the escalating violence, reports indicate that President Zelenskyy is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump next week to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defence capabilities, including increased access to Patriot missile systems.
The latest exchanges underscore the continued intensification of the conflict, with both sides carrying out long-range strikes that have resulted in mounting casualties and damage to critical infrastructure.
