NUC Approves AI-Integrated Postgraduate Programmes for American Open University Nigeria

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved three new artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated postgraduate programmes for American Open University Nigeria (A-Global), paving the way for the institution to admit its first master's degree students in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved full-time programmes include the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Information Technology (MIT), and Master of Public Administration (MPA). The approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC to assess the university's academic staff, facilities, and overall capacity to deliver the programmes.

Speaking on the approval, the Founder and President of American Open University Nigeria, Prof. David S. Akanbi, described it as a testament to the institution's commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance.

According to the university, artificial intelligence will be embedded throughout all three programmes rather than taught as a separate course. The institution said the curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles in industries increasingly driven by AI and digital innovation.

The MBA programme will offer specialisations in Technology Entrepreneurship, Human Capital Development, and Strategic Educational Design. The MIT programme will focus on AI Engineering and Deployment, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, as well as Intelligent Learning Systems. Meanwhile, the MPA programme will feature Digital Governance and Security, Public Health Policy and System Governance, and Strategic Public Sector Leadership.

The university also announced that the programmes will be delivered through its flexible HyFlex learning model, allowing students to study fully online, on campus, or through a combination of both.

Applications for admission into the 2026/2027 academic session are now open, with the university expressing confidence that the programmes will produce graduates equipped to lead AI-driven transformation across business, technology, and public service.
