A serving Nigerian Army intelligence officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was shot dead after reportedly resisting an attempted abduction by armed gunmen at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The attack occurred on Monday evening, July 27, shortly after the senior officer returned home. According to security sources, the assailants ambushed him as he stepped out of his vehicle and attempted to force him into captivity.
Rather than surrender, Colonel Ude reportedly confronted the attackers despite being outnumbered, frustrating their kidnapping attempt. The gunmen then allegedly opened fire, shooting him multiple times and killing him at the scene.
The attackers also fired at members of his household, leaving his wife, driver, and security guard with gunshot wounds. The injured victims were rushed to a hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Colonel Ude, a military intelligence officer from Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year.
He is scheduled to be buried at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja in accordance with Islamic rites. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while investigations into the attack are ongoing.
