20 Killed as Gunmen Attack Communities in Zamfara.

At least 20 people have been killed after suspected armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on several communities in Nigeria's northwestern Zamfara State.

According to local officials, the attackers stormed villages in the Sauna district of Talata Mafara Local Government Area between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic.

The latest assault highlights the persistent insecurity in northwestern Nigeria, where criminal gangs, commonly known as bandits, frequently raid rural communities, rustle livestock, and abduct residents for ransom.

In a separate operation, security forces reportedly killed three suspected bandits in Kwara State and rescued a kidnapped businessman during a gun battle.

Kidnapping for ransom remains a major security challenge across parts of Nigeria, while the Boko Haram insurgency continues to threaten communities in the country's northeast.

Authorities have intensified security operations to curb the violence, but attacks by armed groups continue to claim lives and displace residents. Investigations into the Zamfara attack are ongoing.
