UAE Announces Social Media Ban for Children Under 15

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a ban preventing children under the age of 15 from creating, using, or operating personal accounts on social media platforms.

The new cabinet resolution requires social media companies to monitor and disable accounts belonging to users below the age limit or face possible penalties, including warnings, restrictions, or blocking of their platforms.

According to the UAE’s official news agency, WAM, the minimum age for social media use has been set at 15 years, and children below this age are also prohibited from accessing features such as posting, commenting, sharing content, joining public groups, or participating in large online communities.

The UAE joins countries such as Australia, Britain, and Canada, which have introduced similar measures aimed at protecting children from the risks associated with social media use.

The government has given social media platforms a 12-month transition period to comply with the new regulation.
