Two Sokoto Female Pilgrims Die in Makkah After Hajj

Two female pilgrims from Sokoto State have died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, after completing the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Acida, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency.

Identities of the deceased

The deceased pilgrims were identified as:

Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area

Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area.

Two other female pilgrims involved in the same incident are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Saudi Arabia. One is being treated for a fracture, while the other sustained an arm dislocation.

Government response

The Sokoto State government expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

Officials also confirmed that the first batch of Sokoto pilgrims is scheduled to return to Nigeria on June 14, with return flights arranged on a “first come, first served” basis.

Hajj logistics

Pilgrims have been advised to comply strictly with luggage regulations, including a 32kg baggage limit per person, to ensure smooth return operations.

The state pilgrimage authority also commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu, as well as staff and officials involved in managing the Hajj exercise, for their support and coordination.
