Taiwan has unveiled a new online platform aimed at encouraging Chinese citizens to provide intelligence-related information, as tensions between Taipei and Beijing continue to rise.
According to Taiwan’s National Security Bureau, the website offers a secure channel for individuals in China and abroad who are dissatisfied with conditions in the country and wish to share information with Taiwanese authorities.
Taiwan said the move comes amid growing concerns over what it describes as an increase in Chinese espionage activities targeting the self-governed island. The bureau noted that economic challenges, tighter political controls, and social issues in China have led to rising public frustration.
The newly launched website features an AI-generated promotional video depicting a Chinese civil servant witnessing colleagues being investigated and removed from office. The video ends with the official deciding to seek change by contacting Taiwan through the platform.
Taiwanese authorities said the initiative is designed to expand their intelligence-gathering capabilities and follows similar outreach efforts reportedly used by countries such as the United States, Britain, and Israel.
The website is currently inaccessible from mainland China due to internet restrictions, although some users may still be able to reach it through virtual private networks (VPNs).
Beijing has not immediately responded to the launch. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has repeatedly rejected any actions that challenge its sovereignty claims. Taiwan, however, maintains that only its people have the right to determine the island’s future.
The development highlights the ongoing political and intelligence rivalry between China and Taiwan, with both sides continuing to accuse each other of espionage and interference.
