North Korea Declares Denuclearisation Issue Permanently Closed

Seoul, June 14 – North Korea has declared that the issue of denuclearisation is permanently settled and cannot be reversed, while strongly criticising recent nuclear deterrence discussions between the United States and South Korea.

In a statement released on Sunday through the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesperson for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said the country's status as a nuclear-armed state remains unchanged despite international pressure.

“The United States and its allies’ rhetoric and efforts to strengthen nuclear threats against the DPRK cannot alter our irreversible position as a nuclear weapons state,” the spokesperson stated, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The statement further stressed that denuclearisation is no longer under consideration, describing it as “an irreversibly finalised matter.”

The remarks came days after U.S. and South Korean officials met in Seoul under the framework of the Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG), where both sides discussed measures to strengthen nuclear deterrence and military readiness in response to North Korea’s expanding weapons programme.

Relations on the Korean Peninsula have remained tense as North Korea continues to advance its missile and nuclear capabilities, while Washington and Seoul increase security cooperation to counter perceived threats from Pyongyang.
