Renowned British Artist David Hockney Dies at 88

British artist David Hockney has died at the age of 88, according to a statement released by his publicist.

He reportedly passed away peacefully at his home in London a day before the announcement was made. No cause of death was disclosed.

Hockney was widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, known for his bold use of color and his innovative approach to painting and visual perception.

Over a career spanning more than seven decades, he worked across multiple mediums including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and stage design. He was also known for embracing modern technology in his creative process, including the use of iPads for digital artwork in his later years.

Born in 1937 in West Yorkshire, England, Hockney studied at Bradford School of Art and later at the Royal College of Art in London, where he graduated with distinction. He became a key figure in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s.

During his early career, he gained international recognition after moving to California in the 1960s, where he created some of his most famous works depicting swimming pools, domestic interiors, and sunlit landscapes.

One of his most famous paintings, Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), sold for $90.3 million in 2018, setting a record at the time for the most expensive artwork sold by a living artist.

Hockney is survived by his partner Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima, family members, and relatives.
