The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that three security personnel were killed during a gunmen attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, with security officers on duty at the institution targeted.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Command, SP Alfred Alabo, expressed sadness over the incident.
“The Plateau State Police Command confirms the incident involving security personnel on duty at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru. Regrettably, three security personnel lost their lives during the attack,” the statement said.
Following the attack, the police said additional security forces had been deployed to the area, while patrols around the facility and surrounding communities had been intensified.
The command assured residents that normalcy had returned, adding that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
“The situation is under control and normal activities have resumed,” the police said, urging members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
NIPSS Kuru is Nigeria’s leading policy training institution for senior government officials. The attack represents one of the most serious security incidents reported at the facility in recent years.
