Nigerian Army Rescues 23 Abducted Travelers in Kogi Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 23 passengers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ayegunle-Bunu Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The rescue operation was launched in the early hours of Monday after security personnel received a distress report indicating that armed men had blocked the highway and forcefully taken several travelers into captivity.

According to military authorities, soldiers stationed within the area swiftly responded to the emergency and moved to the scene. Although the attackers had fled before troops arrived, security forces immediately began a pursuit operation.

During a search of the area, troops discovered two Toyota commercial buses and a HOWO truck abandoned by the roadside. The military reported that two people lost their lives during the attack, while five others sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital in Kabba for treatment.

The Army stated that sustained pressure on the fleeing kidnappers forced them to abandon 23 captives, who were subsequently rescued without injuries.

Security forces have continued intensive search operations across the surrounding forests and communities to locate any remaining victims and track down those responsible for the attack.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Kogi State, where criminal gangs have repeatedly targeted travelers and rural communities. Military authorities noted that ongoing operations under Operation Tiger Paw II have intensified efforts to combat kidnapping and terrorism across the state.

In recent weeks, troops have recorded several successes, including the rescue of abducted persons, the interception of ammunition shipments intended for criminal groups, and the recovery of weapons during operations against suspected terrorists.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in combating criminal activities.
