Kwankwaso’s Son Named Running Mate for Kano NDC Governorship Candidate

Mustapha Kwankwaso, the eldest son of former Kano State governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been selected as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam.

The announcement was made on Monday by Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Saifullahi Hassan, through a brief statement on social media following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the former governor’s residence on Miller Road in Kano.

Mustapha Kwankwaso previously served as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development before stepping down from the position in January.

His emergence as deputy governorship candidate further strengthens the alliance between him and Aminu Abdulsalam, both of whom were members of the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Political developments in Kano intensified earlier this year after Governor Yusuf, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People's Party, defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The governor’s defection triggered a political realignment within the state government, forcing many appointees and political allies to choose between remaining with the administration or aligning with Rabiu Kwankwaso and the NDC.

The selection of Mustapha Kwankwaso as running mate is expected to play a significant role in shaping the NDC’s strategy ahead of the upcoming Kano governorship election.
