Israeli Strikes Across Lebanon Kill Nine as Tensions Rise Despite Ceasefire Efforts

At least nine people were killed and several others injured on Wednesday after Israeli forces carried out a series of strikes across Lebanon, including an attack near the outskirts of Beirut, according to Lebanese authorities.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health said the strikes targeted multiple vehicles in different areas of the country, with one attack reportedly hitting an ambulance. Among those killed were medical workers in southern Lebanon and several civilians near the coastal city of Tyre.

The Lebanese military also confirmed the death of one soldier in a separate strike in the south.

A drone strike in the Khaldeh area, south of Beirut, injured two people and heightened concerns over the expanding scope of the conflict. Residents and officials fear the violence could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a lasting ceasefire.

The latest attacks come as Israeli and Lebanese representatives continue talks in Washington under United States mediation. The discussions are focused on reducing hostilities along the border and strengthening security arrangements.

US President Donald Trump recently expressed concern over the continued fighting, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has maintained that military operations are necessary to counter threats from Hezbollah.

Iran also weighed in on the situation, warning that any major escalation targeting Beirut could trigger wider regional consequences.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it launched rocket attacks against Israeli military positions in northern Israel. The Israeli military reported intercepting incoming projectiles and aerial threats crossing from Lebanon.

Diplomatic sources say negotiations remain ongoing, with international mediators working to secure a broader ceasefire agreement. However, the renewed violence underscores the fragility of existing arrangements and raises uncertainty over prospects for lasting peace.

According to Lebanese health authorities, thousands of people have been killed or wounded since the latest phase of the conflict intensified earlier this year, while large numbers of residents have been displaced from their homes.
