Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that any future Israeli attacks on Lebanon or continued occupation of Lebanese territories would violate a planned memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
Speaking to foreign diplomats in Tehran on Tuesday, Araghchi said the key condition of the agreement was an immediate and permanent end to the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon.
He stressed that ending attacks on Lebanon was an essential part of any comprehensive ceasefire, arguing that regional peace could not be achieved unless the agreement covered all areas affected by the conflict.
The Iranian foreign minister said the latest escalation between Iran, the United States and Israel had become linked with events in Lebanon, making a complete resolution dependent on ending hostilities there.
Araghchi also called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories occupied during the conflict, saying the war could not be considered fully over without a pullout.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the memorandum between Tehran and Washington had been finalized and would be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday. The agreement is expected to be followed by further negotiations aimed at reaching a broader deal.
The minister said the first phase of discussions focused on ending the war, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting restrictions affecting Iran’s shipping, releasing frozen assets and addressing reconstruction issues.
He added that negotiations on a final agreement would continue for 60 days, with nuclear issues and sanctions relief expected to be discussed.
Araghchi also praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating communication between Iran and the United States.
