Xi and Putin Hold High-Level Talks in Beijing Amid Global Tensions

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have begun high-level talks in Beijing aimed at strengthening political, economic and strategic cooperation between their countries.

The meeting comes just days after US President Donald Trump completed an official visit to China, adding further geopolitical significance to the talks.

During the meeting at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, Putin praised the “strong and positive” momentum in Russia-China relations despite global challenges, while Xi described ties between the two nations as “unyielding” and built on deep strategic trust.

The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of issues including the wars in Ukraine and Iran, energy cooperation, trade, defence ties and regional security.

Xi also stressed the need for a ceasefire in the Iran conflict, warning that renewed fighting would be dangerous and urging continued negotiations.

According to the Kremlin, Russia and China are expected to sign around 40 agreements covering sectors such as energy, tourism, education and economic cooperation as Moscow seeks stronger partnerships amid ongoing Western sanctions linked to the Ukraine war.
