The United Nations says more than 15,800 people, including nearly 800 children, have been killed in Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Speaking to the UN Security Council, officials said the true death toll is likely much higher as fighting continues across several regions of Ukraine and Russia.
Recent Russian missile and drone attacks killed at least six people in different parts of Ukraine, including a 15-year-old boy in the Chernihiv region. Ukrainian officials also reported civilian casualties in Sumy after multiple drone strikes.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities said Ukrainian drone attacks killed two people and injured several others in the Belgorod region, while Moscow claimed it intercepted dozens of drones targeting Russian territory and annexed Crimea.
Efforts to revive peace negotiations remain stalled despite recent ceasefire attempts and mediation efforts by US President Donald Trump. The conflict continues to cause heavy civilian losses on both sides more than four years after the war began.
