United States President Donald Trump has renewed his tough rhetoric against Iran, warning that Tehran could face devastating consequences if negotiations with Washington continue to stall.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump said time was running out for Iran to reach an agreement with the US.
“For Iran, the clock is ticking, and they better get moving fast, or there won’t be anything left of them,” Trump wrote, adding that “time is of the essence.”
The latest warning comes as diplomatic efforts between the two countries remain tense following months of conflict and failed negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme, missile capabilities and regional influence.
Trump has repeatedly demanded that Iran halt uranium enrichment, scale back its missile stockpile and cut ties with allied armed groups across the Middle East. Tehran has rejected those conditions, describing them as unacceptable and one-sided.
The US president also recently shared an AI-generated image portraying himself aboard a military vessel with the caption, “It was the calm before the storm,” further escalating tensions online.
Iranian officials have condemned Washington’s language, insisting the country will not negotiate under threats. Iranian state-linked media reported that recent US proposals contained “no tangible concessions” and warned that continued pressure could push talks into a deadlock.
A spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, Abolfazl Shakarchi, cautioned the US against further escalation, saying any new aggression would be met with a “strong and crushing response”.
Meanwhile, analysts say Trump’s remarks may also be aimed at domestic political audiences, noting the US leader’s history of using provocative statements during major international crises.
Despite the heated exchanges, observers believe both Washington and Tehran are still weighing diplomatic options, although fears are growing that the fragile ceasefire between the sides could collapse if tensions continue to rise.
