Troops Rescue 92 Abducted Travelers, Crush Terrorists’ Ambush in Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 92 passengers kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters along the Biu–Buratai–Damaturu highway in Borno State.

The rescue mission was carried out on Saturday after soldiers from the 135 Special Forces Battalion stationed at Dutse Kura detected terrorists forcing motorists and travelers into nearby bushes around the Biu axis.

According to military authorities, a Quick Reaction Force and reinforcement troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade immediately launched a coordinated operation against the insurgents in the Mangari-Dora area.

The terrorists reportedly fled after a fierce pursuit by the troops, abandoning their captives and vehicles.

Military officials confirmed that the rescued victims included 52 men, 33 women, and seven children. Eight vehicles were also recovered during the operation.

The troops further discovered and destroyed three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by the fleeing terrorists to slow down the advancing forces. Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams safely detonated the explosives, allowing the soldiers to continue the pursuit.

Operation HADIN KAI stated that no soldier was killed or injured during the operation, while the rescued civilians were safely escorted to Damaturu before continuing their journey.

Meanwhile, the Theatre Command dismissed viral social media reports alleging unpaid allowances and victimization of soldiers in the North-East operation.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that all official allowances for troops have been fully paid up to May 2026.

The command explained that the disputed payment mentioned online was a separate special incentive linked to security duties at a national asset in Tuba, which depends on available funding.

The military also denied claims that any soldier was punished for raising welfare concerns, accusing unnamed content creators of spreading misinformation aimed at damaging the image of the Armed Forces.
