Syrian Soldier Killed, Several Wounded in Car Bomb Attack Near Defence Ministry in Damascus

A Syrian soldier was killed and several others injured after a car bomb exploded outside a Defence Ministry building in the capital Damascus, the ministry said in a statement carried by state media.

According to the statement, soldiers had earlier discovered another explosive device near the building in the Bab Sharqi district and were attempting to defuse it when the car bomb detonated nearby.

The Syrian Health Ministry reported that emergency teams and ambulances responded immediately to the blast. Around 12 people were wounded and transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Medical teams continue to monitor the condition of the injured, officials said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
