Sultan Announces May 18 as Beginning of Zulhijja 1447AH in Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto and leader of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Monday, May 18, 2026, as the first day of Zulhijja 1447AH.

The declaration was conveyed through a statement released by the Sultanate Council and signed by Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.

The announcement signals the commencement of the Islamic month associated with the annual Hajj pilgrimage and preparations for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations by Muslims worldwide.

The Sultanate Council encouraged Muslims to dedicate the holy month to prayers, acts of charity, sacrifice, and efforts toward peace and unity in the country.

Religious leaders also urged Nigerians to continue praying for stability, harmony, and national development during the sacred season.
