Fresh tensions have erupted in the Middle East after the United States reportedly launched strikes on an Iranian military-linked site near the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas.
Iranian media said explosions were heard near the Strait of Hormuz early Thursday, while air defence systems were briefly activated around the coastal city. Reports from Tehran claimed the attacks caused no casualties or major damage.
The escalation comes amid growing fears of a wider regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, Israel, and armed groups across the Middle East.
According to reports, US forces targeted facilities believed to pose threats to American troops and maritime operations in the Gulf. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck what it described as an “American airbase” in the region, warning that any future aggression would face a stronger retaliation.
Meanwhile, Kuwait announced that its air defence systems intercepted hostile missiles and drones after sirens sounded across the country.
The latest developments also coincide with renewed tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Former US President Donald Trump reportedly stated that “nobody’s going to control” the strategic waterway during ongoing discussions related to Iran.
Elsewhere, Israel intensified military operations in southern Lebanon, issuing mass displacement orders affecting the ancient coastal city of Tyre and surrounding communities.
Humanitarian concerns are also growing in Gaza, where Palestinian families marked Eid al-Adha under worsening conditions caused by the ongoing conflict and destruction.
