Saudi Arabia has launched a new “Hajj Without Luggage” initiative aimed at making the pilgrimage experience smoother and less stressful for worshippers arriving for Hajj 2026.
The program, introduced by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, allows pilgrims to send their luggage directly from their home countries to their hotels in the Kingdom, eliminating the need to carry bags through airports and transit points.
Under the system, baggage is collected at departure airports by specialized logistics companies, transported to Saudi Arabia, and then delivered directly to pilgrims’ accommodations in Makkah and Madinah. Upon arrival, pilgrims can move straight to transportation buses without waiting at baggage claim areas.
Officials say the initiative is designed to reduce airport congestion during the busy Hajj season while improving comfort, especially for elderly pilgrims and large travel groups.
According to hospitality expert Bader Al-Juaid, the service reflects a broader effort to improve the overall pilgrim experience by reducing operational stress and simplifying travel procedures.
The initiative reportedly began in 2017 on a limited scale under the Makkah Route Initiative for Malaysian pilgrims before expanding into a larger international operation.
Saudi national carrier Saudia confirmed it is participating in the scheme alongside the Nusuk platform, Matarat Holding, HalaBag, and Saudi Post.
Authorities expect the service to process more than 1.1 million bags from pilgrims arriving from seven participating countries, with luggage delivered to hotels within 24 hours.
