Pakistan Army Chief Visits Tehran as Iran-US Talks Continue

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on Friday for discussions focused on ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States aimed at easing regional tensions.

Munir was received by Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, upon his arrival in the Iranian capital. According to Pakistani media reports, the visit is part of Islamabad’s mediation efforts to help secure a lasting end to the conflict that escalated following military strikes launched against Iran earlier this year.

During the trip, the Pakistani military chief is expected to meet senior Iranian civilian and military officials to discuss Iran-US negotiations, regional security, and broader issues of mutual interest.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has also been in Tehran in recent days as part of indirect diplomatic engagements between Washington and Tehran. Reports indicate that discussions are being guided by a 14-point peace proposal presented by Iran.

This marks Munir’s second visit to Tehran in recent weeks. During an earlier trip, he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior military commanders.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran remains committed to negotiations with the United States despite deep mistrust stemming from recent tensions. He noted that several rounds of messages have already been exchanged through Pakistani intermediaries.

Iran has maintained that current talks are focused primarily on ending hostilities and restoring regional stability, while other issues, including its nuclear programme, could be addressed at a later stage.
