Saudi Introduces Smart Watches to Monitor Pilgrims With Heart Conditions During Hajj

Saudi Arabia has launched a smart watch monitoring system for pilgrims suffering from heart-related illnesses during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

The initiative, introduced by the Madinah Health Cluster, allows medical teams to track patients’ vital signs in real time while pilgrims continue their religious activities.

According to Saudi health authorities, the smart watches monitor heart rate, electrocardiogram (ECG) readings and blood oxygen levels. The data is transmitted directly to doctors and medical personnel through virtual clinics and digital monitoring centres.

Officials said the technology enables healthcare workers to quickly detect any sudden changes in a patient’s condition and provide immediate medical attention when necessary.

The programme, known as “Rafiq Rihltak Bil-Hajj,” is being implemented in collaboration with Seha Virtual Hospital as part of efforts to improve healthcare services and emergency response for pilgrims during Hajj.

Saudi authorities said the initiative reflects the kingdom’s increasing use of digital health technology to enhance patient safety and medical care during the annual pilgrimage.
