Ndume Confirms Abduction of 42 Children in Borno Attack

At least 42 students and children have reportedly been abducted after suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a school in Borno State’s Askira/Uba Local Government Area.

The attack occurred on Friday morning at Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mussa community, located near the Sambisa Forest area, according to local officials.

The senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, confirmed the incident and said a total of 42 persons were taken during the assault.

Ndume explained that four students were abducted from the Government Day Secondary School section, while 28 pupils were taken from the primary school. Another 10 children were reportedly kidnapped from nearby homes during the attack.

The lawmaker representing Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, Midala Balami, condemned the attack, describing it as tragic and heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, said community representatives compiled a list showing that 40 students were missing after conducting house-to-house checks.

According to Kaigama, the abducted victims include 19 males and 21 females.

The latest incident highlights ongoing security concerns in communities surrounding the Sambisa Forest despite continued military offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Nigeria’s North-East region.

Residents and local leaders have continued to call for stronger security measures to protect schools and rural communities from recurring insurgent attacks.
