Authorities in Northern Cyprus have detained an Israeli man after he was allegedly caught trying to illegally transport human embryos out of the territory through Ercan International Airport.
According to investigators, the suspect was stopped at a security checkpoint while preparing to board a flight to Mexico via Istanbul. He was reportedly carrying four human embryos stored in sealed test tubes inside a specialized container labeled “Life Parcel.”
Security officials say the discovery led to his immediate arrest, with prosecutors now treating the case as suspected international trafficking of human embryos.
Following the incident, law enforcement officers also raided a medical facility in Lefkoşa, where two local individuals—a clinic manager and a physician—were detained in connection with the investigation.
The embryos are believed to have originated from a fertility clinic in the capital. Authorities are now examining whether an organized smuggling route was being used, as most flights from Ercan International Airport (Northern Cyprus) connect through Turkey, particularly Istanbul.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials reviewing potential violations of laws governing human cells and tissue transfer.
