Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has declared that Tehran has no trust in the United States and will never surrender its national rights during ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending regional tensions.
Qalibaf made the statement during a meeting in Tehran with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, who arrived in Iran for consultations on the latest developments surrounding Pakistan-mediated talks between Iran and the US.
According to the Iranian official, Tehran remains determined to defend its sovereignty despite pressure from Washington. He accused the US of breaking earlier commitments during negotiations and imposing a naval blockade while calling for renewed talks.
“We will never retreat from the rights of our nation, especially with a side we do not trust,” Qalibaf said.
He added that Iran’s Armed Forces had strengthened their capabilities during the ceasefire period and warned that any renewed military confrontation would bring severe consequences for the United States.
Qalibaf also stressed that military leaders understand the value of peace but would never allow their country’s dignity to be violated.
During the visit, Munir also held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss diplomatic initiatives and regional security issues.
The tensions follow months of conflict between Iran and the US-Israel alliance, which reportedly began with airstrikes on Iranian targets earlier this year. Iran later responded with missile and drone attacks and tightened control around the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global oil markets.
Although Pakistan brokered a temporary ceasefire in April, negotiations reportedly stalled over disagreements regarding US demands and sanctions on Iranian shipping.
