More than 1.5 million Muslim pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia ahead of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, according to Saudi authorities, marking an increase compared to last year’s international arrivals.
Officials from the Saudi Hajj security and passport services confirmed that about 1,518,153 pilgrims from abroad have entered the kingdom so far, with numbers still expected to rise as final arrivals continue before the main rituals begin next week.
Despite ongoing political and security tensions in the wider Middle East—including recent airspace disruptions and rising travel costs—pilgrims continued their journey to participate in the sacred pilgrimage.
Saudi officials noted that flight operations across parts of the Gulf had been temporarily affected in recent weeks, but most airlines have since restored normal schedules, allowing smoother movement of pilgrims.
For comparison, last year’s total Hajj attendance reached over 1.67 million people globally, including both domestic and international pilgrims.
The Hajj remains one of the five pillars of Hajj, required once in a lifetime for Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it.
