Bauchi Permanent Secretary Dies During 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia

A senior Bauchi State government official, Alhaji Shehu Yahaya Jalam, has died in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, while performing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

Jalam, who served as the Permanent Secretary for Special Services in the Office of the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday after a brief illness.

The deceased, who also held the traditional title of Turakin Dawakin Misau, was part of the Bauchi State delegation for this year’s Hajj exercise when he fell ill.

In a statement issued by Governor Bala Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Bauchi State Government described the death as a major loss to the state and public service.

According to the statement, Jalam was known for his dedication, loyalty, and commitment to duty, particularly in coordinating previous Hajj operations and other government assignments.

The government said his death would be deeply felt by his family, colleagues, and the wider Bauchi community.

Funeral prayers were held for the late official on Sunday after the Zuhr prayer at the Holy Mosque in Makkah.

Governor Bala Mohammed extended condolences to Jalam’s family, associates, and the Bauchi State civil service, praying for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest for the deceased.
