A serious transport accident in Bangkok has left at least eight people dead and around 25 others injured after a freight train crashed into a public bus in a busy central area of the city.
According to local media reports, the incident happened in the afternoon near a rail link station close to Bangkok’s city centre, when the bus became trapped at a railway crossing as safety barriers were lowered.
Witness accounts and early reports suggest the oncoming freight train struck the stationary bus and dragged it along the tracks. The impact triggered a fire that quickly engulfed the bus and nearby vehicles.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage and to extinguish the flames. Several injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities in Thailand have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the crash, and investigations are ongoing. Officials are also reviewing safety conditions at the crossing amid concerns over rail infrastructure in the capital.
The accident occurred in a heavily populated and traffic-congested area, raising fresh questions about urban rail safety and traffic control systems in Bangkok.
