A new global ranking has highlighted the largest oil refineries in 2026, underscoring the dominance of Asia and the Middle East in refining capacity, while also spotlighting Africa’s growing presence through Nigeria’s massive facility.
The list is led by the Jamnagar Refinery in India, which remains the world’s biggest refinery with a capacity of about 1.24 million barrels per day. Operated by Reliance Industries, the facility continues to set the pace in global refining.
In second place is the Paraguaná Refining Complex, run by PDVSA, with an estimated capacity of 940,000 barrels per day.
South Korea features prominently on the list with multiple entries, including the Ulsan Refinery operated by SK Energy and the Yeosu Refinery managed by GS Caltex. Both facilities process over 800,000 barrels per day and serve as major export hubs.
In the Middle East, the Ruwais Refinery, operated by ADNOC, ranks among the top with a capacity exceeding 800,000 barrels per day.
Another South Korean facility, the Onsan Refinery, run by S-Oil Corporation, also made the list, reflecting the country’s strong refining infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Africa’s largest refinery, the Dangote Refinery, owned by Dangote Industries, ranks among the top seven globally with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. The facility is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
The ranking highlights shifting dynamics in global energy, with Asia maintaining a leading role, while emerging investments in Africa and the Middle East continue to reshape the refining landscape.
