A tragic school shooting in southern Turkey has left nine people dead and 13 others injured, after a student opened fire inside a middle school.
The incident occurred in KahramanmaraÅŸ province, where authorities say the attacker, an 8th-grade student, brought multiple firearms hidden in his backpack and began shooting in classrooms.
Among those killed were eight students and one teacher, while several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Initial investigations indicate that the weapons used in the attack belonged to the suspect’s father, a former police officer. The father has since been detained by authorities for questioning.
The attacker reportedly died after the shooting, with officials suggesting he may have taken his own life.
This marks the second school shooting in Turkey within two days, raising fresh concerns about school safety and access to firearms in the country, where such incidents are considered rare.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the attack.
